Billy Joel’s The Stranger is the singer-songwriter’s breakthrough fifth studio album, released on September 29, 1977. Produced by Phil Ramone and recorded at A&R Studios in New York City, the album features several of Joel’s most enduring tracks, including “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song),” “Just the Way You Are, and “Only the Good Die Young.”

The album became a major commercial success, spending six weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and ultimately earning Diamond certification for sales exceeding 10 million units in the U.S. It remains Billy Joel’s best-selling non-compilation album and solidified his status as a major figure in late ‘70s pop and rock music.
