Madonna’s The Immaculate Collection is the singer’s first greatest‑hits album, released on November 12, 1990. Produced by Madonna alongside Lenny Kravitz and Shep Pettibone (for the two new tracks), the collection compiles 15 of her defining singles from 1983 through 1990, all newly remixed using pioneering QSound technology, the first album ever to do so.
The album became a massive global success, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and topping charts worldwide, ultimately selling over 30 million copies and earning 11× Platinum certification in the U.S., making it the best‑selling compilation album by a solo artist in history. Its lead single, “Justify My Love,” became Madonna’s ninth No. 1 hit, while “Rescue Me” debuted higher on the Billboard Hot 100 than any single by a female artist at the time. Critically acclaimed for its cohesive portrait of Madonna’s 1980s dominance, the album remains one of the top selling and most influential compilations for a female pop artist.
